Couple of lame questions...

Morning... I don't want to damage anything while attempting to install the fuel lines to the BotaProducts fuel filter replacement; Mike gives me wonderful responses to my emails, but I don't want to bother him for non-product inquiries. That said, here are my questions:

• I want to raise the rear of the tractor to enable me to safely get under it and reroute/replace hoses to the fuel pump. Where is the safest place to place the jack stands? I would normally put them under the rear axles, but the bottom of them is not round, but rather has a about 1" protrusion. Is it safe to place the jack stands on the protrusion of the axle close to the rear wheels?
• where exactly is the fuel pump? I see the rear filter and slightly above it towards the right hand side appears to be the fuel pump... I just want to make sure before I start disconnecting/cutting lines.
• anybody had experience installing this modification? Would be interested in any "gotchas" you might have come up against.

I didn't put jack stands under mine when I did it so can't help you there. If I recall correctly, the fuel pump is in the location you described. You can tell it's the fuel pump and not the fuel filter because it's metal and has wires connected to it. Not a gotcha really, but be sure to clamp off the fuel line coming from the tank or you're gonna have a great big diesel mess.

Sure, you can put the stands under the axle.
I set a couple of 8X8 blocks under the tires. Be sure the parking brake is set and the tractor is in 4WD. If the back is on stands and the tractor is not in 4WD, it could still roll forward, tipping the stands.

Fuel flow is tank-filter-fuel pump-second filter.

When you are done, you will slap yourself for how simple this is. Be triple sure you gently pinich off the fuel lines. Not only to prevent yourself from making a massive mess but also to eliminate excess air in the system. Once the line to the tank and new filter is connected, slightly unpinch that line and fill the filter. When fuel just oozes out of the line to the pump, pinch it back off, connect. When you start the tractor, get to full throttle as soon as you can so any air in the system is purged the engine while it might stumble a tiny bit, will keep on spinning devouring any air in the fuel lines.

You`re gonna love that filter kit that Mike builds. I got one from Mike a couple years ago for our BX23s. No more crawling under the tractor to change out that stupid tiny rear fuel filter anymore. Now its as simple as shutting off the valve, change the cartridge, install the new one, your done.

You can get the replacement filter cartridge right from your Kubota dealer too. ($9.00) When you buy a replacement filter, make sure you get the orings while your at your dealer. The orings dont come with the new filter cartridge. I would buy a couple extra filters & orings just to keep on your shelf just incase.

You`re welcome! I`ll wish you the best of luck, but you wont need it, these kits are straight forward. Hardest part is getting the old rear filter off. Dont forget to pinch off the hoses BEFORE you pull it all apart! Pinch off the tank hose, and also pinch off behind the front fuel filter up by the engine, less air the better when you install this new AUX filter.

When you get just about done, let some fuel out of the front filter hose. This will allow the new filter to fill up and get most of the air out of it. When you first start the tractor, it will bobble a little until the last of the remaining air gets out of the fuel system. This is very normal. I would cycle the key on/off a few times to allow that rear pump to bring fuel up to the front filter.

And double check ALL your work too! Better to go back thru and make sure your clamps are tight. Use LOTS of wire ties to fasten all the hoses to the areas needed to keep them up and tight to the tractor. Anything hanging (or lose) is a absolute catastrophe waiting to happen. Dosent take much for a stick to rip out a hose hanging down.

And remember, there are NO dumb questions either. Its only dumb if you dont ask. There are a ton of people in here that will help you any way that they can if you get in trouble installing the AUX filter.
