I've looked at that also, and wondered how well it actually works, whether it was worth the $1k.

I have seen some use a sickle mower. There are a few that mount only on the 3pt hitch. (no axle brackets) We have a Case IH model 1300. It will on any 3pt hitch and will mow straight up or strait down. Just an option.

That'd be a lot of swerving in and out of the fence to move the mower between fence posts.

I wonder how much weedeater twine you'd go through? Might be a lot of stopping/starting if the twine doesn't autofeed?
