We need a little help to HELP you......

what cha gonna do with this here new tractor????:)

If you just gonna mow and move some dirt around, gravel too - then I would go BX series.

If you need a wider cutter - I would jump up a notch or two, B or L .

the pocketbook typically dictates the direction as well as need.

So - report back with your thoughts of what you plan on doing, and we'll help out!:)

Wow......it's just not that easy to advise you with absolutely no information.
First of all....what do you want to do with it?
How much property do you have?
What projects do you have in mind?
There is a ton of information for you to supply for us to answer your question intelligently.
That being said, bigger is usually better keeping in mind the restrictions of your property or storage issues. From the smallest tractor to the largest they can all cut grass, move some things around and be handy for countless chores.
Deciding what tractor to purchase is completely dependent on what you want to do with it.

when I was in your shoe's a dealer gave me some good advice regarding a tractor purchase: "you are going to trade dollars for hours, the more you spend the more time you will save."

Granted this is general advice, and you can spend more on a small tractor if you choose a higher trim level versus a bigger tractor in a basic trim level, but the general principal applies. If you are retired and have lots of time on your hands then maybe you don't worry about the job taking twice as long. Or maybe you work 2 jobs, have 6 kids and need to get the job done as quick as possible so you an get on with your life so you don't mind spending a little more money to achieve that goal.

WOW! you guys are fast!

didnt want to just jump in there & give a bunch of info & get crickets. :D

so since ya asked i'll get a little more specific:

been looking at older models (have teenage daughters= broke).. 6000's & 7000's

BUT not sure thats what i need.

my usage vs my wants:

usage:
bush hogging/clearing 4-6 acres that hasnt been mowed in years.
plowing the driveway in the winter
dragging logs from downed trees

wants:
4wd.. its quite uneven, hilly terrain here.
diesel?
& the mentioned bush hog.

money vs hours?

im not sure... seems most of the old machines ive looked at have less than 800hrs. which to me seems like not very many. my mower has way more than that & is still a cherry.

money: best deal can get. :)

i know guns(building them is my 2nd job)....you guys know tractors...

if ya need more specific just slap me a little & will spill.

thanks!

I would say.....look for a B with an FEL or an L with the same.

Looking in your neighborhood, you have a lot to choose from!

I was in the same situation as you back in August (land size and tasks planned). I ended up buying a new B2650 after exhaustive test drives and spreadsheet evaluations of different sizes, prices, warranties and manufacturers. The BX series ranked, but glad I went up a series to the B.

ok so reading around with all the letters & such from the main page...

lots to take in... soooo many options..

HST vs not...

how many hours is "a lot" on these?

im guessing that after the intial getting caught up id not put 25 hrs a year on it.

& as pointed out: lots of these things for sale.

bigger seems to be much much cheaper.

im actually in 45631 zipcode but didnt know enough about the machines to go craigslisting & not really understand what was looking at.

the old pig in a poke thing..

great input & im open to whatever you guys throw at me.

edit note: THIS looks great to me... http://cincinnati.craigslist.org/grd/5812256135.html

Also from OhiO and in your shoes a few ago only I didn't need a mower as much as I wanted a FEL but ended up doing a bunch of mowing this summer. Started looking at the BX due to the price and got lucky and found my B7500 for a lot less $. I just hit 1000 hours and running strong. I use it for everything. Actually look for work to due just to use it. I would invite you test drive mine if you were not so far away. HST for sure. Good luck and keep watching CL and your local dealer for trade ins.

I will say the one thing I wish my tractor had is a 3 range HST. Rear remotes would also be nice.

THere aint nuttin wrong with a geared tractor!!! HOWever, HST is so much more versatile - you go from forward to backwards, slow or fast ......no clutch needed. WHEN you want to ease up on something....like a building, HST wins hands down, a gear - you are riding the clutch/brake.

ANOTHER huge HST plus, self braking going down hill!:D:)

May I be so bold as to ask your budget?

I would go small L with a FEL! ;)

Just a note on the B6200: good model of tractor, but that one looks to been rode a little too hard, avoid it!

Things I'd think about in your situation:
-the ground you intend to drive over, will the low ground clearance of a BX series get you where you need to go? Or will you drag the belly or tip over?
-if you are dragging out trees, then you have standing trees, can a B or L series fit between them?
-how big are the tree sections you are pulling out? Old oaks or thin pines? how much do they weigh?
-how much snow are you going to move? up hill, down hill, heavy wet or dry fluffy? how much ground do you need to clear? short driveway could be done with a bucket or blade, long driveway might be easier with a front plow or snow blower.

Go to a dealer and drive some tractors. get a feel for the size, speed, power, price, function of gears vs HST, stability of big versus small machines. see how a low horse power model versus a high horsepower model in the same size range feels.

tractorhouse.com once you narrow down what model you want check this website out and compare prices, features, implements, age, etc.

Lastly, and maybe most importantly, how close is your dealer? are they any good? Is there a better masey ferguson dealer nearby? Or deer? Especially with an older tractor, I'd be sure you can get parts and help for the machine you buy.

These guys all bring up great points.

If you have some mechanical skills and an adventurous spirit, I have found some great deals at auctions. Craigslist is also a given, and looks like you have that covered.

Personally, given your want/wish list, I would look to a B at a minimum. Since I didn't see plain ol' lawn mowing listed, an L is not out of the question......an older B is only 15 +/- PTO HP, so options are pretty limited for a rotary cutter.

Best of luck in your search!!

Budget? Equipment wanted or desired. Don't make the mistake of not getting a loader. B series so far by the sounds of advice and your needs.
