So I've been contemplating buying the Kubota Block Heater kit for my BX2360. I'm a pretty handy person and I'm considering installing it myself - but the knocking out of the freeze plug sort of scares me.

So today I swung by my local Kubota dealer at lunch and asked service what they'd charge to do it. They said it was $70 round trip to pick up and return my tractor, but they couldn't tell me what it would cost to do the job. They only said worse case scenario of 4 hours of labor at $80/hour! It could be less but no more than the $320 - which seems insane to me. I can't imagine it's more than a half hour or hour job but perhaps I'm mistaken.

So what are you guys thoughts on doing the job myself vs. having my dealer do it?

They sell ones that attach to the oil pan easy peasy for a non mechanical person and dirt cheap. Better option in my opinion.

I did it my self and it scared me too. But it literally was quite easy on my BX. Dont use a drill, knock 1 side of the plug with a screwdriver and hammer. It will swing, then you can pull it out. I also flushed my coolant since it was a year later, it was easier pulling the bottom hose then get to the radiator drain plug. There is a couple of good write ups on here if you search.

What model BX do you have? Is the new heater threaded - or is it a "push in" type of deal?

I have friends who do none of maintenance on their Kubota tractors. Instead they schedule their maintenance on the same day and the dealer comes to them to do the maintenance. Splitting the travel time makes it reasonable and much cheaper than a pickup and return. I don't know if many Kubota dealers provide at home service, but you might check.

Its a Bx25D but the same as a Bx2370. Push in with style. I put a loctite compound on it and it doesnt leak a drop. Pretty sure the same style as yours.
