Does a 2201 really need a thermostat?
Was using it last fall bush hogging & the whistle started to blow.
Realized it has a thermostat which was stuck closed.

Is there a temp guage kit out there to add on?
The whistle is hard to hear when working.

Thanks
Russ

If it has one from the factory yes it does need one. Without it the motor runs ice cold and will wear out much quicker than normal.

You can buy aftermarket temp gauges from any autoparts aftermarket vendor. You'll have to drill and tap a hole so that the sender is exposed to flowing coolant. You want it at the hottest part of the engine so either the head or the coolant outlet from the motor is the usual spot. Electrical gauges have smaller senders but tend respond a little slower plus they require a keyed power source. Mechanical are simple and responsive but have large senders that can be tricky to install correctly.

You can purchase an adapter that you cut into the top radiator hose that lets you install the sending unit without drilling and tapping.

Kubotabooks.com has the parts manual for the L245 but I'm not sure about the temperature.
