Not sure if anyone here is interested but here is a nice affordable app to document and easily keep track of maintenance across all of your vehicles, equipment, atvs etc.

Welcome aboard. That's interesting. I use Felt Tiply. New filters are marked with the date and hours. Mower deck gets greased every 3 or 4 uses as does the loader.

That has worked well for the last 100 years!

I've never used the Tiply app! 😂 I used to have logbooks for cars, trucks, or anything with an engine, but transitioned to Excel spreadsheets many decades ago. The spreadsheets are packed with information, and I don't ever see the need to move away from that method of capturing data. When I sell a vehicle, I hand over a spreadsheet to the new owner that shows every oil change, what oil was used, how much was used, brand of oil filter, all other service performed, tire rotation, specs, upgrades, upgrade costs etc. Basically a complete history of the vehicle.

I am a little obsessive about this sort of thing, so when I bought the '02 F-250 from a friend in 2018 I spent a few hours entering all of the historical data that he'd collected in hard copy format into a spreadsheet. He bought the truck new in 2002 and kept every receipt and service record in a binder. Some documents get scanned before shredding and either live in the same folder as the spreadsheet or get inserted into a worksheet in the main spreadsheet.

In this cell phone obsessed society where people have their entire lives on their phone it comes as no surprise that apps such as Wrenchly are more common. People have tens if not hundreds of thousands of text messages on their phones but not me! I delete all conversations within a week and move all photos off my phone to solid state storage. I'll download images if necessary and maybe take a screenshot of something, but I have no desire to have 10 years or exchanges in any format, let alone on my phone.

I recently sold my LMTV M-1078 and asked the new owner to provide a drop box so that I could send him everything that I had. I uploaded 1.22 GB of data for him including numerous manuals, as well as a spreadsheet. To say that he was thrilled is an understatement.

Very wise !

A friend of mine dropped his phone over the side while sailing recently.

Despite a diver being able to recover the phone none of his data or pictures could be restored.

I have an old fashioned folder with paper in my garage and write maintenance logs for every vehicle with a pencil. And I got service tags reprinted that I put in the vehicles for major things like engine oil, gear box oil, coolant and brake fluid.

Having been through a house fire, I'm leary about hard copies without digital backups. Like with this app, sync a copy to to your favorite cloud back up (One Drive, Google Drive, iCloud, etc.) and be done with it. If you lose access, there are likely other issues happening to be more concerned with!

My 1st question is how does it know how many hours since last "service" to know when it's due?

I use a excel spread sheet, where I also keep the service intervals ...

Just update the hours (or miles on vehicles). Once a month, or once a day, up to you. I just figure this is easier for me since I rarely don't have my phone with me. Also avoids getting to a part store and trying to remember what I used for servicing the last time. There is nothing wrong with spreadsheets or notebooks, I just rarely have them with me when I need, convenience is nice.

I always have what I need to "service" sitting at home, usually pick up the replacements prior to even doing the service ...

While I use my phone on the road a lot, (typing this now) I'm not really a phone guy ... I'm a truck driver, it usually stays inside the truck for the 2-3 weeks I'm gone from home, I don't carry it around with me, while at home it sits on the kitchen counter, or in the tractor side box if I'm planning on taking pictures of a project I'm doing ... If I need to run to town while I'm home for a few days, which is rare ... The phone stays home.

Drives me nuts when I get to a customer and I need my phone to have them send me a text, which I need to confirm with them while checking in ... So I gotta walk back out, then start over ...

I have two binders with everything tracked. House, boats, vacation house, cars, trucks, chainsaws etc…I am too damn old with too many toys to remember everything. The tractor also gets the felt tip thingy…been doing it for decades.

If the garage is destroyed by fire, and hence the service records, the vehicles in question will be destroyed too, so the records will be my least concern.

Giving google, apple, unknown third party cloud suppliers etc. etc. my personal information is totally out of question and any microsoft related rubbishware was eliminated about 20 years ago (never looked back one second). My house is 100% apple, microsoft, facebook etc. free and almost google free. For the same reason I use only open source "apps" (never downloaded anything from the play store) or write them myself.

But yes, digital backups are important, I do them on a regular basis and the backup drives are stored in a safe location.

This is what I use for my classics and old-timers (and the BX...), one for each vehicle. I don't keep invoices/bills/receipts though, as I don't intend to ever sell them (my nephew who works on them will inherit...).

Install yet another app? Store my data on someone elses computer that might turn off the service at any moment when they go bankrupt, sell or discontinue the service? No thanks

The built in calendar app does everything I need and is searchable.

The intent is its just another back up. Generally 2 locations will never shut down at the same time. I don't keep all of my vehicles/toys in the same garage either. If the Google wants to decrypt my files and find out when I changed my Hydraulic Fluid then have at it. This has a concern level of 0 for me.

No, it is not about google checking your hydraulic fluid change. With downloading the app from their play store you agree to their terms and conditions. I suggest you read them.

Most apps, including the "benign" ones, use 3rd party framesworks in their apps i.e. calendar date selection plug-ins. These frameworks are susceptible to back doors for your always on, always internet connected devices that you, the end user, have no control over. They likely are not interested in your vehicle service records, only interested in accessing to your SMS, email server and backdoor VPNs they install to relay their malware and scams using your pawned pocket-bot. Scraping your passwords for your online accounts like banking is a bonus side line.

I've only ever used one app to store data on my phone and that's Applied Ballistics. I had a lot of firearms and optics data in the app along with numerous charts for lots of rifles shooting both factory and hand loaded ammunition. The app allows the user to back up all of the data to Applied Ballistics and I took advantage of that feature. Also, I bought the app as a "lifetime" product with free updates, storage, etc.

A couple of years ago I had to get a new phone that came with a new release of the Android software. Despite a "lifetime" purchase of the app I was unable to download and install the latest version without paying, and no longer had access to my data so that I could import it had I paid for and downloaded the latest version of the app. I called Applied Ballistics and their response was "oh, yeah, you'll have to buy the latest version and some of the functionality didn't carry over. Sorry about that".

My old phone still works and I can pull up ballistic data on that phone, but this experience convinced me to use the free ballistic calculator that Hornady offers as well as the Nightforce program I've had on my PC for two decades and create spreadsheets that I can import to my phone.

That's what I like with this set up, saves 1st on phone, backs up to your own cloud storage location to also sync with when you choose. Simple and always there. This online forum with random ads popping up constantly is more of a security threat than the app.

Every rig I own has its own maintenance log.

But I also use the "Felt Tiply" method on all the oil and hydraulic filters. I can see at a glance when getting on or off the tractor how many hours since the filter was changed, and the date it was changed. Same when I look into the engine compartment of the trucks and Jeep and other rigs.

Now this is quite a statement ... :)

But you are forgiven, you obviously do not know how internet browsers and phone "apps" work and hence you do not know what you are talking about. ;)
