Will a mid-mount mower work for me?

I got a B2301 last year to help keep up our gravel road and driveway, plus whatever other maintenance we could make it do.

We got a 48" rotary cutter for the mowing, but it's not working well for our property. We only have 1.5 acres, but it's oddly shaped. It's on a slope, with a house, barn, small orchard, and lots of redwoods. I found the tractor + rear mower to be too long to effectively maneuver around our property. (FYI - there isn't really a proper "lawn", it's more brush and weeds that I want to keep down)

I'm wondering if I'd have better luck with a mid-mount mower, or whether I'd be better off just sticking with the push mower (honestly, the property is small enough where the push mower is ok, but if the tractor can help I'd prefer it)

Also, is there a good place to sell a modestly used Land Pride RCR1548 rotary cutter?

Thanks (New member of the forum, I love the community!)

The MMM will definitely be much more maneuverable. How thick is the brush and weeds? I use a 60" to mow mostly weed and native grasses on 5 acres and it does great.

The brush isn't that thick, but the ground is pretty uneven. It's rough enough where I wouldn't be comfortable driving a car over it, but an SUV would handle it ok. So, I guess I'm most worried about bottoming out the mower.

Does the tractor have a FEL? If so is it on when your mowing. I take mine off my 3901 less you have to worry about sticking out there.

I also have the b2301 with both a mmm and a bush hog. the hog is just for the heavy stuff out in the woods and the mmm is for everything else like what you describe needing.
close to the house I lower the mmm to lawn height but when I get out around the trees and stuff I bring the position control up to about 5 or 6 and just shorten the weeds.
the mmm is tough the blades are not like your lawn tractor blades they are much thicker and heavier than lawn mower blades.
I have the 54" mmm not the 60" I thought it would be a little more manoeuvrable around the trees and stuff.
so far I'm happy with what I have.
I have 23 acres and use the mmm on about 5 of them.
hope this helps?

Do you plan on doing any work on that 1.5 acres.....as smoothing it and making it a lawn? If you do, spend your money on equipment that can do that....a box blade, a rake etc. Once your yard is really a yard you can just get a riding mower. Save the tractor for the big stuff. For the cost of a MMM you can get what you need to make that acreage just the way you want it....if a yard is what you want.
