Today, I am going over my B7100-HST which I have owned for only a couple of months and I read the directions on cold starts. The book states to pull out the Decompression Knob which according to the book is to the right of the head light switch.

I locate the head light switch and then to its right is an orange plastic plug where the Decomp Knob should be. Looked behind the dash, no knob, no cable no signs of modifications ..... where did it go ??

Thanks.
Bill

Does the valve cover have the decompression mechanism? Perhaps they stopped coming with them at some point during production.

On the back of the valve cover is the decompression lever, it should pivot to one side. However, I wouldn't suggest using this to start it, its just unnecessary. I believe the idea is to spin it over a few times in decompression in order to get the oil flowing. The oil is still gonna be cold when you start it tho, it takes a little while to get your oil up to temp.

If the tractor has been sitting for a long time, I could understand that idea. Help get the oil pushed the filter and back up to the rockers. Not as much just because it's cold.

The cable very likely froze up and/or broke some time ago and they just took it out. My tractor has black rubber plugs for a couple items it doesn't have(I.E. hazards)
