What is this slot?

I have a BX1880 and don't know what this slot is for. I suspect its for a 3rd function or something, but not really sure.

probably same as on a BX23S, that's where the dual fulltime rear remote controls go !
for the money is can be a better deal than the parttime 3rd function option.
