Well good things do happen, the mower is fixed,, fingers crossed,, but I was wondering if anyone has ever put some kind of hose bib in the deck to wash all the crap off,, I got a pile of it, working on this thing washing it off after using it in the drive way might make things easier.

I think that make the deck rust out worse. The water won't remove all the grass and moisture will get trapped by what remains. Only cut dry grass and the buildup is much less.

A lot of mowers come with factory washouts standard and there are plenty of aftermarket kits.

"Only cut dry grass and the buildup is much less."

Bingo. I never mow when grass is wet or damp.

I clean the underside of my mower once each season after removal in the fall.

I tried a factory washout on an old mower once ! What a mess it produced, and didn,t come close to cleaning out the underside of the deck. Being retired, I have the luxury of being able to choose when I cut our couple acres of grass. Like others have stated, I only cut it when it is 100% dry. In the fall, once I have removed the mower from the tractor to mount the snowblower, I tip it up and give the bottom scrape with a 3 inch putty knife to remove any areas that have a little build up in the corners. At the same time, I have a good look at the blades, and touch them up if required, I also check the level of oil in the gearbox, and grease all the nipples and the sliding shaft, so it is ready to put back on in the spring.

I must mow grass while it's green or the place would become overgrown and look awful. The best I've found is the same oscillating pressure washer nozzle I use on concrete and brick. Park tractor and support deck with blocks while washing. Downside is that I get overspray on me but that's often a welcome cool off. If there is an abundance of stuff on ground afterwards, I toss it in bucket with pitchfork and dump beneath trees to rot into soil and mulch for next Summer. If gear box is up to the task, cutting woody plants knocks stuff loose. As for rust protection, at end of season I stand deck up for through cleaning then coat underside with used motor oil when dry. If I dress blades with grinder before storage I coat edges with grease.
Unless deck sits on concrete during mowing season, it helps to block it above ground for better air circulation. Armadillos and other creatures love denning beneath mower decks which might not harm deck but I don't want to encourage them to hang around and the higher off ground, the less attractive.
