Two extremes

Here's our ex Australian army Unimog with a GVM of 12 tonne next to our little B7200.

We've got the Unimog set up for camping under the tarp in the back. We've had it for nearly 6 years - I've been planning to build a solid body camper for it and should have it finished about 4 years ago.

When I made the bar work I included a spot for a small crane, so I made a small crane with a hand operated boat winch that slots into an upright on either the left or right depending what side you want the wheel. When not in use the crane comes apart and lives in the back.

If we get a flat when out bush, the first job is to boil the billy - we're gonna be there for a while.







The wheels and tyres in the pics are Michelins with a beadlock and runflat insert on Hutchinson wheels - ex US military. They weigh about 220 kg each. I've since replaced them with a similar assembly with headlights but no runflat so they now weight about 180 kg each.

These are 395/85-20 - OD is about 46.4 inches. I don't think I'd like to be dealing with anything bigger in the bush, but I guess tractor tyres get a fair bit bigger.
