I just purchased my first Kubota, a L4200 GST. I own a JD1050, IH 200, IH484, and MF165 but never a Kubota. The tractor is well used and came with some problems. No power to anything electric, (except the starter). hydraulic oil leaks, seat is mostly worn away, paint that is rusting (had bags of salt stored on it when I bought it) and glitchy hydraulics. The good is that it start right away and runs strong. A puff of smoke when started but not after. The brakes are good, diff lock works, 4x4 works, seems to shift fine.
When I bought the tractor it started but wouldn't move. I added 2.5 gal of hydraulic fluid (all i had at the time) and it drove on the trailer. At home, before driving it off the trailer i repaired a bad oil leak on what think is a return hydraulic line (see picture), $1.99 for an oring. I drained about a gallon of hydraulic oil from this opening. I added enough to bring it up to the site glass.
First thing I'm working on. Hydraulics. The power steering is jerky, as i turn the steering wheel it feels like the power is on and off, almost as if it was low on fluid and the pump is sucking air. it gets better with higher rpms. the 3 point hitch is the same when raising. it moves up and then stops for a second then moves up some more and then repeats. the PTO turns when engaged. I have ran the tractor for 20 minutes.
Where do i start to look for the problem.
