Using my tractor today , it had been sitting for several hours when I returned and looked at the fluid level gauge for the transmission. It was completely empty. I moved the tractor around the yard some, then looked and the fluid was half way the gauge. Of course the tractor was on flat ground and engine off when I check it both times. The fluid in the gauge looked very clean. Not dark at all. (34 hrs on tractor L3800 hst)

Subscribed. I had a similar experience. I can't find a definite answer regarding fluid level and if it should be checked while running or off. While running it seems to be over full and when off it seems to be empty in the sight glass.

Mine can look like it's on level ground, but if the front is down just a bit the site glass is full. Back end down just a bit and no fluid shows. Tractor must be level, front to back and side to side. Also the fluid is extremely clear and a full glass can be mistaken as empty.

Always check when the tractor is not running...

Did the 50 hr service today and lost alot of fluid. Next time ill use a vac on the trans fill port to avoid this massive fluid loss. The oil and hydraulic filter were tight as hell. I can usually spin a filter by hand even after a wrench was used to put it on but I could not budge these.

I did check my transmission gauge on complete level , or as level a I could possibly find. And it will show in the site glass. But any movement at all. It shows empty. I called a tractor dealer today about the cost of the 50 hr check up , this dealer sells the blue ford tractors too. The service guy quoted me the cost of $250. for the check up. He said they don't do the differentals until 200 hr check or unless the customer wants them done sooner. I had read one post , maybe from Kentucky the guy said the quote for the 50 hr check was $600 bucks. I was shocked to read that. So when I got quoted $250. I thought what a deal.
