Hi, I need help timing the D950 engine on my 1985 Kubota. To check the valve clearance, I found the timing marks on the flywheel but can’t find the crankcase mark. The manual mentions it, but I still can't find it.
Also, to find the flywheel marks, I turned the engine counterclockwise, so do I have to time the fuel pump gears as well? This all started because I lost several hundred RPM when mowing. I started by adjusting the valves, and now I'm clueless about what to do next. Thanks.

As I understand it you can NOT change the timing of the engine except by changing the position of gears under the front cover of the engine. That timing right or wrong by where the gears are placed when the chain is installed.

Then you can change the timing of the injection pump (mechanical version) by adding or removing shims between the block and the pump.

But neither of these can be easily done just out of the blue by time or wear.

Let's simplify the valve lash adjustment.

While turning the crank watch the rocker till it goes flat, disengages, then a little past then set the lash.

And you're playing with the wrong things, you more than likely have a fuel delivery issue.
