Did some route maintenance on the mower desk yesterday. Had the deck raised vertically by the bucket so I could clean it and decided to change the gear box oil. While I was waiting for the last bit of oil to drip out I was looking the loader over and noticed this O-ring sliding on the bucket cylinder.
I’m not the sharpest knife in the kitchen but my spider senses went off, this doesn’t look right. It looks like it’s an O-ring to keep the dirt out of the cylinder. There is currently no leaking going on. Also not sure how it’s supposed to seat into the cylinder, doesn’t seem to be any obvious groove or such to snap into.
The loader WSM isn't very helpful, no clear diagrams or part #. Messick’s has a great diagram but only sells a kit for an ungodly amount ($30 / O-ring).
1 – How critical is this O-ring? I imagine over time dirt will eventually get in there.
2 – Is there a part # for just this O-ring? I don’t think I need a whole kit.
3 – If I find an O-ring elsewhere is there anything special about them I should be aware of?
4 – How difficult is taking the cylinder apart and reassembling it? WSM makes it look easy.
5 - If I do take it apart will I need to replace all the O-rings and thus WILL need the whole kit?
