Don't have the 2501 but I'm still under the 50-hour break in also. Been operating the RPM's at about 2100 for BH work and had 1st regen last week and it required I bump the throttle over 2400 for the 15 minutes it took. I think 540 PTO is 2450 RPM's anyway so the 150 RPM's over that seems negligible?

I just looked it up, HST's 540 is @ 2600 RPM's.

PTO ratings is one of my "pet peeves"... the "standard" L's (not sure about the newer ones...) have a dash to highlight the tractor rated PTO below 2500 rpms but in the literature, it states that it should be 2650 rpms.

L2800 GEAR has RPM as 540@2430; but in my manual, for HST it's 2580...

Look in your manual and let us know if it's the lower number... ( I'm just curious, that's all. )

Each new tractor I buy gets run at wide open throttle for flail mowing with only a couple of hours on the clock. I do change the engine oil sooner than needed in the manual though. I've never had a problem.

I did have an L2501, and contrary to Cathy's comments felt like it had better power than expected. Perhaps its expectations, but I also had an mX4800 at the same time.
