Now that I'm ready for winter again, I'm posting a picture of my L4479 front blower. First mod was to replace the pathetic shoes with ones that are three times larger. Second is to remove the plow blade edge and replace with a 2" heavy pipe/flange. I have a bunch of gravel road work and find this combination floats well and doesn't suck up gravel on partially frozen surfaces. Can't remember what the shoes cost, but the bar was $200 for fabrication. 1" grade 5 carriage bolts and nylox nuts (10) holds it together.

Any details? I have L2195 Snowblower and would like to have an alternative to the shoes and edge wear issues I have on my dirt driveway and other paced driveways that I do.

Looking at your parts diagram, you will replace the "cutting edge" with a custom pipe/flange. The flange is 3/16". Remove the cutting edge and take it to a fabrication shop so they can pattern it and go from there. The stock shoes look iffy.

I have my shoes being fabricated at this time. They are going to be about 4" wide. I also cut a piece of pvc pipe that I put over the cutting edge. I'm tired of throwing gravel all over our pasture. Don't know yet if this will work but it sure can't hurt.
