That brake shift cable should have almost ZERO “play”….such that stepping on the brake operates the hydraulic-shift-release so as to allow gear-shift.
My X900 was improperly adjusted and had “slop” just forward of the firewall where the cable ”housing” or “sheath” would slip and slide allowing “slop” in the action. Gettting rid of that slop made the RTV much easier to shift gears.
