Recently bought a B2650cab and immediately wanted to replace the speakers. Searched the OTT site with little help so I thought about posting my experience and then, last week, I saw a new YouTube video from Messick's so I decided to post.
I know most here cannot or have no desire to upgrade/install any audio. But for those who do, this is what I did:
The speakers cover come off with 4 exposed Philips screws, these screws are the same that hold the speaker from falling, so watch out. Mine didn’t have any screw clips and was screwed into the cloth header, wtf.
After removing the speakers I quickly realized that Radio Shack must of had some kind of DIY project speakers on their going of business sale that Kubota took advantage of because these speakers are an absolute joke. Not mad at Kubota or anything, I get it, just, wow.
Immediately went to Amazon for some 4" speaker options. Now, I was not expecting anything exceptional in a 4" Coaxial (2-way) speaker, but, at least it would be coaxial.
I tested the following:
Kicker 41DSC44
JBL GTO429 Premium
Hertz Dieci DCX1003 from ABT.com
Details:
Kubota uses an 8-ohm Clarion 25W speaker. On the tractor side there is a proprietary 90' angle plug that makes it impossible to simply plug in standard speakers. However, the connector is standard so you just need to get some male and female connectors. I soldered on (see picture)
JBL sounded better than the Clarion but will too bright sounding. Very piercing sound when loud. This speaker also did not fit into the Kubotas left housing. The speaker was just a bit too deep, but did work to test.
Hertz sounded great, lows and highs were good. I really like Hertz, as I have Hertz speakers in my Street Glide and I am very happy.
Of all tested the Kubotas were the worst sounding (go figure), then the JBLs. Ironically I was stuck between the Hertz and the Kicker, the Kicker is $56 less expensive. I struggled with this, as I tend to go higher end.
To me, the Kicker was the best. Very hard to decide between the Hertz and Kicker. I actually installed one of each in the Kubota to give a real life sound. I kept switching the songs and changing the balance to test. Although both sounded good in their own way the Kicker was a bit deeper in the base and I felt that is what was missing.
Thanks.
