Hello,
New member here looking for some advice and have questions about my BX2200 (and I apologize if these questions have already been asked before).
This BX2200 came here and it was running terrible, getting hot and blowing white smoke. My best guess was the head gasket blown, thus the reason it was smoking. Watching the water level in the radiator with the cap off it would rise instantly when cold, gauge would read in the red within 5 minutes. So, I took it apart finding a blown head gasket between two cylinders and a crack in the head coming from the cylinder chamber to the pre combustion chamber in the head(number 2). From past experiences Ive had, looked like the head needed fixed. Called my local machine shop and they advised me it would be cheaper to replace the head instead of getting this one fixed. Looking around online, I found a cylinder head that fit the D905 for around 600.00. Not knowing any better, I ordered it and just assumed that all D905s were the same, whether in a tractor application, generator, etc. Side by side, heads are identical. It bolted up fine, fit fine, machining looked good, etc.
Here's my issue (sorry for being long winded)
Comparing the two heads, the original head has a larger hole for the injector tip heat shields to fit into place. The new head does not, as they are smaller and the heat shields do not fit. Is this going to be an issue if I do not run these heat shields in the new head? DO I need to buy a different style injector? If so, does anyone know what kind? The old injectors thread in fine so far without the sealing washers on yet.
Also, On the new head, the threads for the glow plugs are oversize and my original glow plugs do not fit inside the new head (the threads are too small, they just drop in the holes in the new head). Definitely looks like this new head calls for bigger bodied glow plugs. Im not opposed to buying whatever glow plug my fit in there, just wondering if this will cause any issues? Would anyone have an idea how to figure out which glow plug fits in this head?
Its my fault for assuming all heads were the same, and I probably could have avoided this if I did more research and bought the head for this application. I have the new head on the engine, torqued down, valve train reassembled and the engine turns over fine (no valves htting pistons). Just looking for some advice/experience and hoping I don't have to buy another head and use what I have. Thank you in advance for any help anyone can provide!
