I have a Landpride RCR 1260 rotary cutter,. I just added a Pat’s quick hitch to my three point hitch. It adds about 6 inches of extra length. Do I need a whole new, longer PTO shaft or can you just get a longer shaft from the PTO on the tractor to the the receiver PTO on the rotary cutter?

With your mower hooked up to the tractor measure the distance from one u-joint to the other. Mark the point were you are measuring from with a paint stick or scratch a mark on each u-joint. Then pull the two pieces apart and lay them out on the floor. Make the distance between the marks the same as when they were on the tractor. With the 2 halves next to each other measure how much overlap there is when they are the same size that you need now.

Then look at this article: http://www.befco.com/technical/technicaltips/tip1.html#:~:text=When the PTO is in,(see figure on right).

This will tell you if you need to buy a longer shaft.

And both halves should be the same length, one half should not be longer than the other. The equal halves allow for the shaft to be shorter at fully collapsed condition and more overlapping at longer lengths.

I think that is what you asked about.

Your local tractor supply will probably sell new replacement PTO tubes, buy a set and cut to fit. I think its better to replace the tubes as a set and keep lengths matched, but you could get away with extending only one side and living with the consequence.
