Well kids I have another question about gen sets,, the old girl runs but after 13 years Im not sure how long its going to last and I would hate like hell for her to give up the ghost in the middle of something nasty, and not have something else to back it up. So this brings up the question of PTO gen sets, yes I have people tell me they put to much time on the motor and all kinds of negitive things, but all of that a side. What Im want to know is this, the PTO on the BX is rated about 18 hp and I figure a 10kw is all I would ever get out of it, BUT if I was to go to say a 15 kw, while I wouldnt be able to get that out of the set would I still get about 10kw out of it? The reason im asking is i have a line on a 15kw (new) for about a grand, I dont think the plastic is off it yet,but I have to let him know by tomorrow if I want it,,,So help me here guys do I or don;t I have a new PTO gen set.

This suggests it works you just have to take care not to overload the tractor. You can overheat the windings quickly by turning a loaded generator below design RPM. Doesn't do good things to whatever is connected to it either.

Another link I used to come to that conclusion.
