I am having a problem with my Kubota F2260 mower which has a 3 cylinder diesel and hydrostatic drive.

After about 10 minutes of mowing the mower begins to shake, shudder and the exhaust will start spewing black smoke. When stopped with the mower deck disengaged the condition still exists. The shaking, shuddering and black smoke continues until the engine quits. This occurs at any engine speed. When restarted and the engine set at any speed the problem does not exist. When driven with or without the mower deck engaged the problem comes back and the engine stalls. This keeps continuing.

To try and remedy the problem I have changed transmission oil, filter and cleaned the pickup screen, this did not correct the problem. The injectors were bled no air was found in the lines.

Don’t know if this is a problem with the engine or hydrostatic drive.

Any help would be appreciated.

Have you replaced the fuel filter?

Thank you for your response.

Sorry I forgot to include that both fuel filters were replaced.

The problem does not occur when the mower is sitting with the engine at idle or high speed.

This problem only occurs when the mower is driven.

Try checking the valve lash.
Had an old mower years ago (gasoline) that sort of acted the same, got hot, lost power, would not run under load. It needed the valves adjusted.
