I went to use my B4200 today, non start. to all intents and purposes battery flat. I fully charged and refitted it, same. I checked usual connections, volt drop on earth side, all good. Jump start directly to starter motor, same.
So now I started to think the worst, oil and water levels a little low but not empty! So I removed glow plugs and it spun over without ejecting any coolant so hydraulic lock ruled out.
Checked and adjusted valves, same.
Any ideas please?

Your description isn't clear.

Is the motor turning over with the starter but not firing?

Or is the starter not functioning?
"Jump start directly to starter motor, same." Same as what? Same- no response from the starter when power is directly applied to it?

Sorry Dustball, What I meant was that the starter tried to turn the engine over but would not go past compression, making me think it was hydraulicing or valve(s) not opening. Fortunately it was a much simpler fix, what I must confess is a school-boy error on my part. Just because the battery is fully charged doesn't make it a good battery! What are the chances that my jump battery is equally f****d?!!!
I put a new battery on and away it went, problem solved.
It goes to show that with all those years of experience, one can so easily overlook the obvious.
