Ok my gear head piston slappin knuckle noggin friends, I need some ideas. I ran the gen set over the last weekend just to keep it dryed out and ready if/when I need her again. Its a 5.5kw not to big with an old Tacumsa motor 10. I have been over the net looking for ideas to quiet it down granted when its running its in the garage but its still noisey 30 feet away even with the door closed. Has anyone built or replaced the muffler on an engeein of this type that really made a difference? I have seen some of the honda gen sets that are really quiet, how do they do that? I dont think the old S/E muffler will do to much to help,,lol So any one been there done that, I need your help.
Peace

The bigger the muffler and the smaller the outlet pipe the quieter the muffler. Generally. That said you can put just about anything on and it'll be quieter than the coffee can the factory sticks on there. I'd shop around for a nice ATV or Honda Civic muffler myself though a tractor muffler would be cheaper.

The main issue is that it is probably a 3600 rpm genset. Hard to quiet them down. You need a 1800 rpm set.
