Moving rocks with the BX1860

Skeets, I never panned any of the soil here but I have seen it done. There are a couple of rivers near here where people pan sometimes. The state regulates where and how people can pan for minerals here. I have never seen or heard of anyone getting enough gold to justify the labor or the time. I am sure that there has to be a few somewhere but I am not willing to use my time that way.

I recently bought a rock bucket that I have been using to dig rocks with these days. I probably should not have bought that rock bucket because now I am back to digging and moving rocks that I did not know I had. If it is true that you die when you run out of work to do, I am destined to live a damn long time. Here is a link to the rock bucket that I bought last month. I have a BX6315 Quick Attach that makes changing buckets a 2 minute job, or less.

I could have sworn I saw in my owner's manual that the maximum lifting capacity of my loader is 500 lbs. or so. And you're saying that your 1850 will lift 650lbs. +? I'm confused.

Lift capacity is often given at full height. Because of leverage advantage, the FEL will lift more weight to a lower height.

This was lifted about a foot and would go no more.

I just noticed that you list a BX 2650 as your tractor. I could not find data on that model but here is a link to the BX 2660 That should be about the same as yours.

Here's a page from the loader owner's manual. Not positive quite how to read it. But it looks to me like it is rated to lift 518lbs. to max lift height. Not sure what all of those other numbers mean. Maybe someone else here will help me by explaining them. Sorry, don't know why it loaded upside down. It's right-side up on my computer.

I can tell you what those numbers mean to me... it means I sometimes wish I had a bigger tractor.

Seriously though, those numbers seem to be nominal weight ratings at particular measured lift points. I think that some people have tweaked their tractors buckets to lift more weight, and some seem to have come from the factory able to lift more than advertised. I suspect that such is the case with mine. Also, I think that the amount of weight that a bucket can hold at one level is greater than what it can lift to a particular level. I hope that made sense 'cause if it didn't then I am at a loss to explain it.

Jeff - looks like you have the same tractor as mine.

It's really a matter of simple physics.

The most important numbers are capacity at pins (loader arms), and capacity 500mm forward (about 24")- which amounts to bucket front edge.

The weight capacities do not include the weight of the bucket itself.

Further out the load/weight from the pins, and the higher things get, the less it can lift. Think of holding a bucket of spackle up close to your body versus at arms' length to the side, or over your head....

Also, lift to full height is usually not important with a bucket of stone, because you almost NEVER want a full bucket of stone to full height, because things will get REAL tippy REAL FAST. You generally want a heavy load low. But, it can be important for filling a truck, trailer, or lifting with straps, etc.

In many cases, absent some kind of ballast in the rear-end of the tractor, a load to capacity in the loader will generally tip the tractor over long before the loader meets capacity, especially if trying to move with it. My rear tires are loaded, and I also carry a 350 pound box blade on the 3 point hitch when doing loader work.

So, in theory, a 650 load all in the bucket (close to the pins) - and using a bucket weight of 100 pounds (I made that up) would equal a ~750 pound load capacity... but the bucket itself extends beyond the pins, so it lessens it a little.

Wish you were closer, have to buy rocks for landscaping a road and patio that I am putting in.

I buried all the rocks that had accumulated at the farm for the last 50 years or so last summer. 120 miles out of downtown Minneapolis. All you needed to do was come and haul, I would have loaded all you wanted. Sorry
