I have a L2000DT with 1200 hrs on it.
It has started making a noise in the motor intermittently.
It sound like a gear grinding/ clashing noise like trying to put in gear without clutch. Very loud and severe!
It has happened 5 times now within 3 hrs, each time it was idling, out of gear, and had been idling fine before and after. One time I had just reached over to lift the bucket, but not sure if I had actually touched the lever of not when noise started.
The noise only lasts a second, I ran to turn it off but it had stopped (The noise) before I could get there. The first time I think I saw dust coming off the motor but happened so quick it was hard to tell.
Has anyone else had any problems like this before or heard of it?

Where is the noise coming from, motor or gearbox. One possibility, however remote, after you start your tractor, remove the small start wire from the starter motor solenoid terminal, so the starter can not be engaged again by a failing start switch or relay, this may not be the cause, but it just removes one possibility.
If you think it happens when you touch or use the hydraulics, it may be worth removing the pump to check the pump drive gear or splines are not flogged out.
Good luck in tracking it down, some reordered audio may help with diagnosis, as well as trying to establish if it happens while doing the same things etc.

Pretty sure noise is coming from motor, and sitting by it self out of gear while I was off the tractor, it should be isolated from gearbox.
Not sure if I had actually touched hyd lever when it happened once.
I'm trying to remember the noise in my head, but it didn't sound like starter engaging, more like trying to force it into gear, but I will disconnect wire next time I use it and see if that makes a difference.
It never did it anytime I was driving/reving it, only while idling.
Being intermittent it will be hard to record it.
Its about to get its annual oil change so I will rip the filter apart to look for metal/teeth as well.
