In last thread inspected hydraulic filters and found metal chunks attached to magnets on filters. Today I stopped by local kubota dealer and asked service writer what would labor time be to overhaul or repair transmission. She said she would get me an estimate and call . Isn't there a labor time guide for tractors ? I worked automotive for over 40 years and always based labor times with Chilton labor guide . Reason for asking just trying to get prepared because their labor rate is $150 per hour.

Tractor Data doesn't list the M9960D. Closest they show is M9960HD. That would be 4WD open station tractor with 8 speed transmission. Could that be what you have?

Having been out of the "dealership" loop for some time now (last place I was employed the shop rate was like $65/hr.) so that goes back a ways. I don't know how bad things might be today, but for all my years in the game there were flat rate manuals for most all repairs. Not that anyone paid much attention to them.

My tractor is cabbed, 4WD, 4 speed Trans., hi/low range, shuttle shift . The dealer called me with a labor estimate of $8000.00 for Trans rebuild/ overhaul, parts would still have to be added .

I served as a JD dealer service manager from '74-'87. I regularly used a JD flat rate labor manual when determining repair costs for repairing components that I was unfamiliar with or submitting for labor reimbursements for JD warranty repairs. $8000 @ $180?? per hour shop rate is 44.4 hours. 44.4 hours sounds like a lot of man hours to repair a standard 4 speed trans even though tractor has a cab

I also thought it was high but not having any experience with kubota and it's construction, just don't want to get started and then not have special tools that are only at kubota.

If you have the WSM, and I wouldn't start without one, Kubota is pretty good about calling out any special tools needed. And sometimes there are workarounds or the tool can be made. Keep in mind I've never seen an M9960D.
