Ok, so I have a 2006 m95s 4wd cab. Bought used last fall.
The radio hasn't been 'right' since I've had it but it has gotten worse with this hay season so I finally broke down and bought a new head unit and speakers (have head unit in hand, speakers are being shipped).
So, I get home, insert the removal tools into the factory unit and slip it out of the way and start examining wires to see where to begin the wiring fun.... I have found that the 12v source wire has no power at the main plug. I found the wires in the floorboard and checked it... Has power, checked again up top.... Nothing..... Aaaaahhhhhh!!!!!!!!
I can jump the switched 12v to the constant and the factory unit will kick on, so I know that is my problem. Bt I don't know how to gain more access to the area to steal power from my ac.

While having it jumped, I found that my speakers main problem is that the plug is CRAP, all the speaker wires are loose causing intermittent shorting. I will possibly cut the plug out and replace it or just solder my own plug on there, even though I hate the idea of cutting the factory harness (it's a thing I have from working on vehicles.... I hate it when people cut factory wiring harnesses because it makes for rats nests and impossible to trace wiring later).

Any help on this issue word be great.
Thanks.

Josh,

Are you checking for power up top at the plug or are you checking the wire itself? It might be that they did a poor crimp job on the terminals when they installed the plug and what you *think* is a bad plug is really a bunch of bad crimps. If I were you, since the either the original crimps or plug are crap, might as well cut the thing off, and splice in the new one that came with your head unit.

I'm guessing you are going to find that wire itself has power and the crimp inside the plug itself has gone bad and that is why you have no power if you're checking at the terminal. Pierce the insulation a couple of inches back from the plug and see what you get. I deal with this stuff all of the time. Often the wire insulation is still crimped so the wire feels like it should be a good connection, but the copper was nicked when they stripped the wire and vibration caused the connection to fail over time.

One other thought is there might be another plug someplace under the floorboard that connects to the upper harness. It could be that it has a bad connection and that is why you have no power.

Finally, have you checked to see if there is a fuse somewhere along that wire????? Most radios have an inline fuse near the plug and perhaps it's buried in the harness a foot or two away from the radio and maybe is blown.

Just my $.02,

Steve

If you can get the OEM plug to work (agree with other poster about bad crimp, broken wire at plug, or fake crimp onto insulation not wire) and if you truly don't like cutting original wire harnesses (I won't myself if there is any option at all), look at making a short jumper harness set from the OEM plug to the radio using commonly available plugs from Mouser Electronics or other sources. The OEM plugs aren't proprietary and there are hundreds or more available from suppliers. The OEM plug may have a part number and mfgr you can track down pretty easily to find its mate.

One other thing, move the fuse out to where it's accesible in the future if you have someplace to stash it out of sight and where it won't get snagged. On all my radios (esp. 2-way) I've learned to always add a fuse in the ground line near the radio---just in case. A different electrical device can create problems in the ground circuit and try to backfeed. Cheap insurance. Keep the fuse rating on both sides just larger than required to prevent nuisance activiation.

I had a very small amount of time to work with it this morning and found that I had no power at the floorboard on that wire, when testing previously I must have done something weird or somehow gotten a false positive.
I found a 12v source that was unused and jumped it over so I now have power up top. Now I just have to cut the factory plug and wire the new unit in.

Can't wait to get this thing in and get the new speakers in..... Be able to Bluetooth stream from my phone without earplugs...

"found that I had no power at the floorboard on that wire"

Josh, I'm betting you either have a blown fuse up under the dash or the connection where that wire hooks to either a relay or the keyswitch is corroded.

Cool that you found another wire!

Good luck,

Steve

Well, the radio is in and working, however, after a bit in the field, my ac blower no longer works....

As far as the fuse, I checked all the fuses under the dash and I had the switched fuse blown, but all others were fine, replaced the switched fuse but that still didn't change the constant.
I'm about to just give up today....
Hay is ruined from the unexpected rain, and I'm burning alive in the cab without the blower......

After sitting turned off awhile, it started working... Apparently it was frozen up. I've never dealt with an ac system where the air stops flowing, everything in the past just stopped cooling.
So, as of right now, I have a working tractor with a badass head unit and ac...... Off to go batwing a neighbors and make some money!!!!
