I am looking to purchase a used M9540 cab loader tractor. The dealer is letting me "test drive" it a few days. The AC blows cold air for about 45 minutes, then it turns lukewarm. At that point, the AC pump is beyond hot to the touch. From the tractor being cold, you can run the AC for less than 5 minutes, and the pump is already quite warm. The belt is tight. The condenser has been blown out. The intake filters are new.

Is this a common problem on the M9540? Am I missing something that could be causing this besides a bad pump? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I could be wrong, BUT, it sounds to me like it might be low on Freon. have the dealer do a recharge on it and see what happens from there.

My 8530 was doing the same thing. A can of freon from Napa fixed it.

Taking into consideration what dealer shop rate charge is I would suggest to invest in some AC gauges and get some AC knowledge then check the coolant pressures yourself. As long as one is careful checking/adding coolant is easy as I've been performing that task myself for years. I have 3 cab tractors with AC's that I have to monitor.

We have a couple tractors around here that you need to turn off the cab heater where the supply lines come off the engine. Off in the cab, might not be off..

I too have a m9540 and have had AC problems for some time but 4 compressors later blowing ice cold. If its not freon low, ck the other way cleaning the lines. Toward the dryer. Come to learn also a recommended low voltage reg relay was causing a 1/2 sec or so delay in stopping the clutch thus burning 2 up. If u break into the system flush thoroughly both ways replace expansion valve an dryer and add a fan to front of condenser. The draw from tractor fan sometimes not pulling enough thru condenser thus building up head pressure. Compressor from dealer 1900-2100 $. And clean condenser daily while using. Been learning the hard way in the Hot South....
