What does a bucket weigh typically ?
My factory Massey Ferguson GC 1725 MB 48” bucket, with BXpanded’s tooth bar, two of Ken’s Bolt On Hooks, 2” Receiver hitch from Ken too … 189.0 Lbs

An L won't have a mid PTO, so no mid mount mower (mmm) but a LX will ... Grand L (or at least my 21 old one) has a mid PTO as an option.

The larger tires will not only have a MUCH LARGER foot print, (you would have to do some math to compare psi per square inch!) but provide both more ground clearance AND a better ride!

Grapple vs Bucket and/or forks doesn't look much of a topic to me ?? What does a bucket weigh typically ? Plus i realize there will be limitations. The grapple is about saving my back.
for perspective, i lifted a wet wood 5ft by 13 inch diameter oak tree trunk, just barely off the ground. This was basically the limit of my BX with those bolt ons/bucket.

The backend totally was lifting up, i didn't have a ballast available at the time.

Fwiw, having both...the BX has so far done everything "tractor wise" that my L has in my wooded property, just slower. I can fit 4x the wood in the L bucket.
Until you drive over a branch and break the BX cooling fan. That design isn’t intended for woods work.

Doesn't Kubota make a skid plate type of devise for the BX?

Certainly there must be an aftermarket skid plate for it ... Right?

There are several aftermarket kits available . Problem is if you have a Mid Mount Mower.

This is the only one that accommodates: Bro-Tek Skid Plates

Kubota's plate is judged to be inadequate

The belly mower protects the belly. If removed, get a skid plate. Not that expensive compared to a fix needed if a branch lodges up there.

The Bro-Tek skid plate does not "accommodate" a mid mount mower, it is installed in place of the mid mount mower. The mower does act as protection for the cooling fan but it also greatly lowers the ground clearance. For woods work the skid plate in place of the mower offers much more ground clearance. In either case, the BX ground clearance is not enough for rough woods work but is fine for trails through the woods.

Regarding grapples for a BX, the Land Pride SCG0554 only weighs 180 lbs so it leaves a lot more available payload that the 285 lb grapple discussed in earlier posts. For a BX you don't really need a heavy weight grapple that will reduce what you can carry given its limited loader capacity.

BXpanded has a good plate. Bought mine a few years ago. Worth every penny. I put this on after I remove the belly mower and put my R4 tires on for winter duties. Gives me about 2-3 inch lift with the R4’s.

If your serious about going in the woods ... The B or larger size has much larger tires and better ground clearance ... While only slightly heavier than a BX, the B's larger tires should have less issues on a lawn as far as weight per square inch ...

Does the B also need the skid plate, or does it have a different cooling type system?

The B has an oil cooler in front of the radiator, no hydro fan. The hydro fan seems to be only on the smallest sub compacts

He still has it. But shipping is nuts. $1700 to ship to me. Anyone know of a super cheap shipping company on east coast?
Check into "Less Than a Truckload" shippers. Fed Ex might even be able to handle it ??
I recently paid $300 tor a 1500 lb shipment from New England to Florida, But then diesel is twice of what it was then . . . .. . thanks to tRump.

That was a LTL company. Will keep looking around though. Thanks for the suggestion.
