Hey guys. I’m new to Orange Tractor. This is a long post for my first one. I have a 2000 model L3710. I got a good deal on it several years ago, and I love it! I finished changing the Hydraulic Fluid and filters yesterday.
I had the old fluid drained, and the new filters on in about an hour and a half. I thought, “this was easy!” Then I noticed in the manual to remove and clean the transmission strainer. So I proceeded to do it. I had a difficult time figuring out from the diagram in the manual, where it was located. I didn’t want to remove something I was not supposed to.
I located a large bolt head I figured was it. I tried to remove it, but could not break it free. I was frustrated and decided to walk away and try again the next day (yesterday).
I sprayed it with PB Blaster and let it sit several hours. I did everything I could think of to break it loose. I decided to heat it up, but my torch would not stay lit. Probably a good thing. The only socket I had that would fit was a 27mm. It would grip, but not tightly. I went on an expedition to find a 26mm socket. Long story.
The 26mm fit perfect. Still could not break it loose. Breaker bar did not work. I put a pipe over the breaker bar for more leverage, but no luck. I didn’t have enough room to get leverage because I was laying on the ground under the tractor. I finally put a long enough pipe on the breaker bar to reach out behind the tractor. I went to the back of the tractor and pushed the pipe down with my foot, and it broke loose.
what should have taken me less than two hours, took six hours, off and on. Story of my life. lol!
I searched everywhere to find out what size wrench I needed for the bolt. I couldn’t find a lot of information on the L3710. There’s a lot of information on the L series. They all were saying it was a 12 or 13mm. So just for the record, the transmission strainer on an L3710 takes a 26mm socket or wrench.

It had almost no metal shavings on it. So it was very clean considering the age, and I don’t think it’s ever been done in 25 years.
