I was doing the 50hr service on my tractor and decided to replace the Hyd fluid filter, when I crack the filter and oil starts running out it never seems to stop or slow. I bought two extra qts of UDT2 but the amount that ran out exceeded that so I screwed the original filter back on. do I need to drain 11 gal of oil to change this filter?? or do I need to be fast and methodical :) I had the front loader down with no load.. the manual doesnt really help.. Help :)

There is a never ending debate about whether to change out the hydraulic oil every time you change the filter. Earlier owner's manuals had this recommendation.

I'm of the opinion that changing the fluid should be done at each filter change interval. Especially at the first 50 hour requirement. The assembly debris and the parts seating wear seems to justify it.

Others see it differently and use a vacuum suction hose on the fill hole to create a pull on the oil so less runs out. Others park on a sideways grade so the filter is elevated. Still others just are prepared and hope they can swap the filter quickly.

But for the price of the tractor, cost of repairs, and the insurance fresh oil provides, I'll change the oil each time.

Yes, it is a bit expensive but so is any insurance. Peace of mind can't be measured in money.
