Hi,
I am replacing the front main seal on a L3400 HST. Does anyone know which way does the collar go into the shaft? One side of the collar is beveled on the inside, the other side is not. I am thinking the bevel goes toward the engine (rear) so that the o ring will fit inside it. The part illustration at Kubota web site does not show this detail. The guy who replaced it previously put the oil slinger between the main pulley and collar which is obviously wrong. Therefore I don't trust how the collar was installed before I took it apart.

Yes you have it right, the oring fits inside the chamfer and prevents oil from leaking out between the crankshaft and oil seal race.
