Can anyone help with setting the max fuel screw on the injector/governor housing for best results. Also setting the max RPM on the throttle assembly. These settings seem to be omitted from the workshop manual and appear to be only known by diesel mechanics. I did a complete strip down and rebuild of the engine so an adjustment seems to be required as the engine seems to be in idle no matter what the throttle position is set to.

If the throttle level is moving the level on the injector pump but the RPM is not changing then inside the pump the throttle shaft is not engaging the rack.

On the inside of the pump the throttle shaft has another lever that makes the speed rack slide back and forth, it is very easy to put a pump together and not get the inside lever engaged with the slot on the rack.

If it were a timing issue it wouldn't run, or would run extremely rough.

If the throttle level or pedal isn't moving the lever on the pump then you need to figure out where the linkage is disconnected, usually this is a solid rod type linkage, but I guess it could be a cable, if so it could be broken or sticking.

Best Regards

Beat me to it! - great information.

One thing to add - internal injection pump repairs are not in most service manuals. Nor are the internal specs.

The reason is simple - even if you had them, there is nothing you can do with the specs as it is impossible to set the pump up to proper factory specifications without a fairly stout special set up bench/tool/device.

So internal (Bosch style piston pumps) injection pump repairs and proper setup to factory specs is even more specialized than what many also consider specilized work - and that would be injector work which can be done in the field with the proper tools. You still have to have some tools though, again, there is absolutly NO way that you can properly set up a injector to factory specs without them.

Hence pop off and spray pattern specifications are provided for injectors.
