I'm ready to buy my first tractor that isn't sold at a big box store.
I am sure it will be a L2501.
I will purchase the 2wd with the gear transmission because it will live it's life mowing, grading the driveway and some light landscaping, all in my yard. (Also the 4wd hst is out of my price range)

That being said, my biggest concern is the selection of tires.
I know that the turf tires can handle the mowing and light work I intend to use it for but I am wondering if the turf tires are more prone to punctures from the little stubs (tree)left behind after mowing and the rocks which magically appear from time to time here in the Ozarks. I am concerned about tearing up the yard since much of the top soil is on ledge rock and not very deep. Rocks are a way of life here. I feel the lug tires would last longer but if they tear up the yard every time I mow I will regret choosing them.
I also think that the turf tires will work for just about everything I do, but if I puncture one I'm in trouble.
I know this question has most likely been addressed before but I would appreciate anyone chiming in with their own experiences.
Am I over thinking this?

Warrenton,VA,
HI Missouribound, I have a 2501 with gear drive, 4x4, FEL, and AG tires. Let me assure you it is a fantastic tractor with plenty of power! I chose the AG tires for what I knew I would be doing, plowing snow, bush hogging, and down through the woods to get firewood. I researched tires before I made my selection and most seemed to say that AG offered the most traction but at a cost...hard on turf. R4 tires offer good traction and are much nicer to your yard. Turf tires offer fair traction but are the easiest on grass. Based upon your intended uses I would suggest the R4 tires, as it seems to be a nice middle of the road option. Good luck with your purchase!!
