I have an L 1501 two wheel drive, aka L175, needing to repair brakes. Removed wheel spindle , not much to that, but now I need to remove the brake housing, what sort of project am I looking at?, and how exactly does one remove the brake housing? It has a tab on the rear of the housing but nowhere on the front to pry it loose from the transmission case.

Your tractor is actually closer to the l185 :) Was gonna send you the link to the workshop manual, but lost the bookmark  You can get the current parts brake down for yhe l185 at
http://www.kubota.com/part/partsList.aspx . Just scroll down, hit "I accept" Then on the next page it brings up. Type in L185, and it will bring up your tractor.

I got the same tractor. About the only difference between the l1501 and l185 is the transmission, and turn signals instead of flashers.

Haven't been that far into the back end. Just replaced the lip seal on one side. One step farther and I would have been into the brakes.
