Owning three Kubota tractors I've become a regular visitor and knowledge seeker from the site and have had multiple occasions to use the forum tech tips. In that regard would like to thank the many contributors for their help and advice. Like to share an experience of mine.
My MX5200 developed a strange behavior when you would put in the key and turn the ignition switch to the on position it would go through the self diagnostic test complete and then go blank. The fuel pump would noticabley start up and run. Turn the ignition switch to the start position and would start and then die.
Checked the contacts on the switch connector under the cowling and were dusty but otherwise looked okay. Used some contact cleaner and electrolytic grease and reassembled. No change could turn the key and self test and would start. Tried cleaning the switch same results. Wasn't until then that I noticed that the odometer was blank after finishing the self test.
Grabbed the key and began turning it off and on. Then noticed if I put the key in the ignition on position and jiggled the key that the self test would blink run and then go off. After several attempts the tractor started and ran for a short period. Jiggled some more my it was apparent that luck and that ignition switch had run out. Took the ignition switch out of the tractor an easy task on the MX5200 as the connector is directly under the cowling no need to remove anything other than the ring holding the switch on.
Went shopping for a part was pretty sure it was the ignition switch and after checking on Orange Tractor Talks went shopping at my favorite Kubota online parts dealer, ninety five dollars plus shipping. Thought it's a ignition switch used on multiple tractors, trucks, and industrial equipment must be alternatives in the automotive sector. Next on the jungle web where for thirty five dollars I'd get a good looking part with two keys ( HMY TC020-31820 Ignition starter with 3 position 5 terminal 2 keys). No shipping and part came the next day. Exact fit, form, and function everything works exactly like it should.
Like doing business with my dealer and using guinine parts for my tractors. Three times the price for a general usage and available part had to draw the line with. Am looking for replacement fenders for a 1978 L245DT if anyone has a lead please let me know.
