Y'all:

I am attempting to change my oil and the dang oil drain plug is directly above a welded plate for the loader bracket.

Does anyone have a similar setup and how do you change the oil? Just open it and make a mess or what? I'm not removing the loader mounting bracket, that's for sure. This is a dumb-assed design.

Often a piece of cardboard, scrap piece of sheet metal, cutoff plastic bottle, etc works fine. It looks like the MMM isn't doing any favors.

In cases like that I would stick a drain pan under it and "make a mess". I have seen far worse..

Remove MMM. Aluminum foil from your kitchen. Several paper towels or shop rags.

No fun.

keep the oil FILLER cap ON until AFTER you remove the drain plug.
I do that on my BX23S and oil slowly 'plops' out, giving me more time to adjust the drain pan. THEN I remove the filler cap...whoosh.....
BTW '97 F150 4.6 has similar 'location' issues..... for the oil filter.......
