Kubota 28Z Gear Box Problem

Y'all,

I have a zero turn mower with control box problems. Any chance anyone knows where I can get a replacement on the cheap? My local dealer quoted me $1000.00 give or take.

I can't get the control box from under the mower deck off

If you mean the gearbox on the center of the deck, that's about the right price for a new one, however, they are rebuildable. To remove, you need to pull the center blade off, and pull off the dust cover. If the dust cover has been hit, you may have to cut it off. After you get it off, there's an external circlip that has to be removed, and the cover that holds the grease in the spindle can be removed. Now take off the belt, and remove the 4 bolts that hold the gearbox to the mounts. Keep track of the bolts and where they go, they're different lengths from side to side. That gearbox is rebuildable, but if anything more than the gearset, bearings, and seals are bad, it's almost cheaper to buy a new box. Fill the rebuilt or new gearbox with "00" grease.
