There we go again!! Unfortunately, I left my Kubota 2250 tractor outside the shed and the stormy weather in FL rained over it. The air filter was open and water came inside the manifold and now the tractor will not start at least I sprayed starting fluid through the opening in the air filter (I know NO NO good to do that!!!) then the tractor will run fine! if I turn it off then I will have to spray it again repeating the process. Any idea way? Thanks

To quote another member "look for the simple things first". Simple as in you might have partly depleted charge in battery, put battery on charge until it tests 12.6 v or more. Unlike old gasoline engines that eventually catch and start on a partly charged battery, diesels that are in perfect condition need to spin over at full speed else no start.

Thanks jaxs. When I tried to start it I had the battery charge connected to the engine starter position(200 amp) but I will try another battery just in case. Could be that the water damaged the injection fuel pump????

From what I've been told...
..yes water can destroy injector pumps and engines....spraying ether in is a SURE way to destroy Kubota engines....

for starters, I'd remove the glowplugs and turn engine over without allowing it to run. After say 30 seconds the cylinders 'should' be purged of water. maybe blow compressed air into the GP holes. The idea is to remove as much water as possible.
Also blow any/all water out of the air intake, buy another air filter, again remove the water !!
Once you're sure NO WATER, reinstall the glowplugs and perform a normal start. For me that's 5-6 steamboats of preheat, then turn key to 'start'
Hopefully it'll run smoothly. If not, odds are you've destroyed the engine......

If its starts on either ? you have enough electrical juice to run it.If it started water is gone from cylinders …You have a fuel delivery problem. Check fuel filter and fuel shut off. You may need a battery after it runs on battery charger.
Maybe have water in fuel. Pull filter and see if clean fuel.

Thanks Greensvillejay, but It can't have water in the cylinder...the tractor is running(spraying starting fluid...I know, I know, I shouldn't do it!!) if water reaches the cylinders at this time it should be gone!!

No, no water...fresh fuel( I even put some water removal and injectors cleaner Diesel Kleen). But I will remove the filter tomorrow and place a new one. Thanks!

I would be surprised to find that exposure to rain damaged an injection pump since mfgr fully expects many of their tractors to spend their entire life exposed to elements. Once engine runs a few minutes there's no way water can remain in combustion chamber where GP.s are located. If cylinder filled with water then sat for a period the Gp might be damaged. Water on piston doesn't compress so it isn't unusual to blow a gasket, bust piston and/or crack something. If that happed I would think engine will run like crap if at all.

It can't be said too many times "LOSE THE STARTING FLUID". If you are stranded on a beach with rising water spray fluid only after starter is spinning engine which usually requires helper.

A little primer for Op and the community on charging batteries. This is from manufacture of batteries I sold at my business. In short a smart charger will return what you pay for it many times over during it's lifetime. 200 amp charger should only be used when there's no option for charging at less amps over a longer period.

The mfgr furnished me free loaners and required me to install loaner, charge customer's batter then switch out when customer returned free. The charger in my shop as prescribed by battery mfgr could charge one or several simultaneously but each battery received maximum of 8 amps when 90% discharged,3 amps at 50% tapering to a fraction of amp maintenance charge. That could take up to 48 hours for a group 27 battery with sulfation on plates. Even batteries which are in daily use can benefit from spending time on maintenance charge. That is to say if your car/truck/tractor is on maintenance overnight every day,it's health and life is extended. Every day might be overly vigilant but overnight once or twice per month will pay dividends. Tractors, mowers and boats should be hooked up when not in use. My preferred brand is Deltran.

Good luck. Fill the fuel filter it will help bleed the system.. quicker.Little starting fluid aint gonna hurt. Just dont use the glow plugs. Becareful on something like this that you do short cranks on starter. If it gets real hot you’ll be buying a started after you get it running

hmm 2 possibilites
1) the glowplugs aren't working. You don't use GPs with ether, but needed for diesel so can you confirm they all get hot ? IR gun or a fast finger will tell.

2) the fuel pump isn't working. If you have an electric 'lift' pump, does it go tick-tick-tick ? At some point mine didn't yet the BX23S started, drove fine.Only when I crawled under it,did I notice he connector had disconnected ! If yours is electric, remove hose at inj pump, turn key on, pulses of fuel should squirt out.

agree your engine is living on borrowed time when you use ether !
