The Kid has a 1981 CJ, with a 151, 4 cylinder, iron duke motor. She has rebuilt this beasty from the ground up over the last 20 years. So now she is in search of, her words, a lower thermostat housing. She said the upper ones are a dime a dozen but the lower one is like hens teeth. Now I really dont understand what she is talking about because she is out on the left coast up in the high desert and I have not seen it. So if any of you Jeep guys have a lead please let me know.
Thanks much

I am starting to think that motor combo might have been one of those cross over spots going from the earlier iron duke to the 6 cylinder I dont know I cant find anything on line about that year,, thanks for looking in to it

Just some ideas...

Maybe it's not the engine she thinks it is. But also, there are a lot of people selling parts for that engine on eBay.

There's always junk yards. I'd have her call the local ones to see if anyone has the same engine.

Finally, if she has the original part, maybe it can be refurbished. Even if not, a picture of the part might make it easier to find using Google image search or similar.

Yeah Jim she is going to have a welding shop that does weld up the one she has , some how. And salvage yards for 150 miles around 29 Palms have been searched. People say yeah we have the motors but no lower units. She talked to a yard outside of LA, and was told they have 5 or 6 motors and a guy came in and bought every lower housing off the motors. So I dont know, I dont have a picture of it, I ll tell her to take one and see if I can get it posted here. To be hones I really cant see why it would be that hard to find, but there ya go.

Two options I can think of are:
1) Have a part fabricated that would clamp that to the block. Not sure if there is room around that and whatever is around it. My idea would be to make something that looks like the last picture view that fits tight over the remaining ears and flanged area.

2) Have one machined out of a solid hunk of aluminum or steel. Use what you have as the model to duplicate it.
