The PTO switch on my mower -- a TG1860G -- is a headache. I've replaced mine, but the problem remains. It does not engage the mower blades routinely. It usually works as it should after it sits for a day. I'm curious if anyone has any idea where I might trouble-shoot this one.

When this happens have you checked to see if your getting power at the clutch . Disconnect the wire's at the clutch use a meter or test light and see if you get any power to the clutch . If you don't then check the wires from the switch for any rubs or breaks. You can also check the switch to make sure it's working properly. Sometimes the switches will corrode inside and not make a good connection on the contact points. The last thing would be to make sure that the electric clutch itself isn't breaking down. If the bearing on the clutch itself is bad it could have caused a rub through of the windings on the clutch giving you problems.

Very, very helpful, tinkerwitheverything. That should give this 72-year-old greenhorn everything he needs to find the problem.

Best regards.
