For Residential use. I have 30 acres. Uses are maintaining 1500’ driveway, clearing dead fall in 3-4 acres of forest, digging/maintaining drainage ditches/swales and eventually plan to farm about 2 acres. I don’t want to decide on the 26 and end up wishing I had more hp, digging depth/reach etc. I sat down with my local Kubota Dealer to get some pricing on both purchased new. Obviously there is a distance in the pricing. Must haves were hydraulic thumb and remote hook ups on the front for implements, mainly a grapple. With Kubota rebates on both and 0% for 60 months, the 26 comes in around $34k and the 47 at $52k. I am in my 40’s and am hoping the machine I choose lasts me the better part of my existance and does not leave me wanting I had more (frankly I will always want more Lol!!). I don’t mind spending on the L47 but don’t want regrets if I choose the 26. Anyone out there in the same situation? Anyone choose a lower hp machine and wish they went for more? I’m doing my due diligence and taking my time on an investment of this magnitude.

Not sure if they're still available but what about splitting the difference with a L39?

I have the similar cousin to the L47, a 2000 L48TLB. As with any piece of equipment, you will always come across a job that makes you wish you had more power. I have unearthed a few boulders that I couldn't lift but could dig a deeper hole and bury it deeper.
On the other end of the scale, there have been a few times going thru the woods that smaller would have been nice. It might only be 6 feet wide but takes a lot more than that in the turns. The front bucket hangs out front quite a ways. So a bunch more trees had to come down to get thru the trail.

I don't do much close to the house, not that we can grow a lawn. So I'm not worried about the weight.

I'd suggest making a realistic list of what you want to do with it. If you can get away with a smaller machine, there's more budget for attachments! The down side is some attachments need the bigger horsepower (catch 22).

Just make sure with either one that you decide, make sure you get the 3 point hitch arms and links. I bought mine used and the previous owner never got them and never had the backhoe off. They're very expensive to buy separately after the fact.

Good luck.

Pulled the trigger on brand new L47. Has the 3 point hitch, hydraulic thumb for backhoe and front remote hook ups for future grapple attachment. Delivers on September 28. Just in time for fall chores. I am super excited. Can’t wait to get to work in it.
