I need another one....older and maybe smaller

I currently own a 2019 BX2380 with fel, mid mount deck and box blade. Low hours and a great all around tractor, no complaints! However, we are an older couple headed into retirement and probably a smaller parcel of land. Currently four acres, probably two or less acres when we retire next year. My BX gets use, but not a great deal of use. I use it in the summer to mow and move soil for the garden. It sits most of the time.

I was thinking of maybe finding an older Kubota that would handle a couple of acres without having my money tied up and sitting in the BX......what would you suggest I look for? I want a fel, mid-mount deck and box/scraper blade. Something physically smaller than the BX would be ok. Did Kubota make anything to meet all those needs?

There was a nice older unit on here a year or so ago, I think it was a B5100 or B7100 and it had everything you can imagine in the way of attachments, but I was never able to reach the seller. It may have been sold before I saw the ad. It was in the Florida panhandle. I'd buy that one today if I could find it.

So, what do you recommend?

This is an unusual request, Reading your past posts, you've already downsized from an L2501, correct?
My thoughts

* Stay with what you have. It's a known quantity to you. It's about as small as they get.

* I don't see much financial advantage unless you get top dollar for what you have and find a killer deal on its replacement. An older rig is likely to need more repairs; is this in your wheelhouse?

* Are you willing to give up the hydrostatic transmission? Some of those gear tractors don't have independent PTO which would be a NO for me for mowing. As long as you're just using the loader for a wheel barrow, gear might be ok, but for scooping I don't think so.

I appreciate the advice. I was just thinking about options since everything is in flux with us just now. If the BX proves to be the best option I'll keep it. I have no complaint with it really. I really need the fel since I can no longer lift any real weight. I have other mowers, but the BX is biggest and fastest. I do appreciate the advice.

I agree finding an older even smaller machine than a BX with a FEL and hydrostatic transmission could be tough.

The few small ones I’ve been around like that have been extremely difficult to get on and off due to the small size of the operating station.

The BX is really the smallest real tractor you can buy. Anything smaller won't have a 3pt or won't have a sensible FEL. Kubota certainly don't make any smaller.

Cheaper you could do, but you're really just buying an older machine at that point, not a smaller machine. There will be compromises in that, and cost of change. I wouldn't have thought you'd get a lot more than $12,000 for your BX. You'd want to get at last $5,000 back I'd guess. I don't think you can buy much that's good for $7,000. If you're going to buy a machine for $10,000 I don't know why you'd bother - cost of changing and all that hassle, and only get a little cash out of it.
