  1. If the backhoe loopback is not connected the loader is hydraulucally blocked and neither loader or 3pt will work
  2. If the 3pt valve is not in neutral snd the arms are down they will come up with the loader
  3. If the 3pt valve is not in neutral and lift arms are all the way up the loader is hydraulically locked and will not raise.
Now using that information find your problem. Start at the head of the circuit with the 3ot full down and work backwards testing as you go.
Ok. I "think" i have located the problem or at least I have no more symptoms sitting still in my garage as it rains outside. I started into your bulleted points above. I was working thru the list when the system was apparently hydraulically locked as nothing would move. Nothing. Zilch.

No kinked hoses in the bh loopback. QD Fittings appear normal but I disconnected and cleaned out and reconnected. Something had the system locked and you had me pointed in the bh loopback part of my system.

Well the previous owner put a thumb on the bh so there are TWO fluid returns from the backhoe. See below.

Historically I had capped off the right one and used the left one when the bh was off and I needed the bh loop to be complete. Aha!! Why don't I swap them out and see what happens?

Voila! Normal operation!! At least it appears normal here in the garage. Will test tmorw as I put on the 3pt adapter for a 2in trailer receiver and move my new to me car hauler trailer up to its home in the equipment shed.

That left QD always had a leaky poppet valve so I preferentially used it so it would not leak all over the place. So I now can only surmise that was a symptom of a failing qd and it has now really failed. I will be replacing this valve asap.

So many thanks to you Dan for pointing me in the right direction and prompting me to educate myself more on how all this crap works together. You were dead-on accurate - a problem with the bh loopback.

I am not clear on the need for a separate return for the thumb but sounds good!!!
