I'm getting an lx2610 with a BH77 backhoe and the dealer said only a rigid thumb is available. It seems that with so many similar models that another kit could me easily be modified to work. Does anyone have any experience adding a hydraulic thumb to a lx2610?
Also, I was told only pin-on buckets were available. Is there a quick attach that will fit the BH77 backhoe?
Thanks in advance,
Dave

Hi Dave, I'm new to all of this, and I'm here to pick peoples brains. Just ordered a L2051 with bh77 backhoe. I was told $3000. for hydraulic thumb and he never sold one before. When he was looking he was surprise they had it to offer. So I'm thinking it may be a new option. Sorry but that's just crazy price. May sound strange but I'm thinking about installing a 12 volt ram? I would like to know what other's think and maybe someone has done it? It would make the job simple. I was told the 24" stroke was about $1000. After I get my tractor I will be able to measure what I need and get a price.

There are serious risks for machinery damage when converting to a hydraulic thumb. Rather than repeat them, I suggest you read through the following thread.

Thumb

Pay particular attention to the components Yanmar includes when providing a hydraulic thumb.

Dave is very correct on the bucket curl overpowering the thumb circuit. On the factory option for the bh92 the thumb valve is added to the stack and has its own pressure relief preset from the factory. Without doing extensive research, the bt series thumb kits are about the right size. The valving/relief are the hard part.
The factory kits are $3000 because the weldment with cylinder are $2000, and the valving is easily another $1000. If you check my sig, you will notice the excavator quick change. It is not a factory option for a bh92. It took making special shims to work, but do your homework and a thumb can come together. I would try to mod factory kits, it is expensive, but 90% of the research/fab is done for you.

The aspect not understood is that on most hydraulic control valves with built in relief valves, the relief valve is not in the circuit when the control lever is in its neutral position.

You either need to install a separate relief plumbed to be protecting the circuit right at the cylinder or if you can find it, get a control valve with both a relief valve and a safety valve.
