Hello,

I just recently changed the hydraulic fluid and filter for the first time (since I have owned the tractor). The owners manual says the capacity is 7.5 gallons so I drained the trans case (at the 4 points) and then filled with 7.5 gallons.

The window on the left side of the trans case isn't even registering fluid at all. Since it didn't specify in the owners manual, I filled most of the fluid through the filler near the 3pt arm and then about the last half to 1 gallon through the filler in front of the seat (top of trans case). If I look down into the trans case with a flashlight, it doesn't look like there is much fluid in there.

I was under the impression that the two fillers led to the same place (common fluid) but perhaps I'm wrong?

The tractor does have a loader but I did not drain any of the lines or cylinders.

Should I drain some from a plug on the rear axle and pour in through the filler in front of the seat? If these are separate compartments, how do I know when the axle case is full?

Thanks

It is all one reservoir. Both of those fill plugs go to the same place as you thought.

Sometimes it is very difficult to see fluid in the sight glass. The background is bright white so if the background is a bit yellow-brown you actually have a bit too much fluid. It is very common. There is a large fudge factor so not to worry.

If you measured the fluid as you say then all is well. You could drain some fluid out to see if the sight glass background turns bright white. Then add back some fluid until you get it where you want. Of course, use clean containers for the drain/refill.
