Hi all, this is my first post and its a doozy. What could be building so much pressure that its blowing out my hydraulic filter? happened 2 years ago, changed the filter and refilled and was fine until this spring. Then in June it happened again, I put on a new filter and refilled the fluid started the tractor blew out in 10 seconds. I cleaned all of the relief valves and the wire mesh screen changed the filter again, refilled started was fine for 2 weeks and blew out again. I'm stumped and its starting to add up between filters and fluid. Tractor is about 20 years old is a BX 2230D. Would greatly apreciate some guidance.

Does the problem occur when you are moving or just sitting without trying to propel the machine? If while trying to move likely that one of your charge checks are not sealing due to contamination or damage. If while sitting there not moving it could be your charge relief valve.
This is assuming you are using the correct filter for the application.

Cross reference filters ARE available!
Kubota DOES NOT make hydraulic filters!
It's irrelevant as to who makes filters for Kubota, what matters is that they're made by a vendor that Kubota chooses, and they're made to Kubota's specifications which are proprietary.

As for cross reference filters, does Kubota provide a list of filters from other manufacturers that are "equivalent" to theirs? No they don't. Manufacturers of filters are in the business of selling filters and they provide the cross reference charts, not Kubota. These manufacturers want the customer to believe that they're buying an equivalent or even superior filter, typically for less money. They have no liability if the filter causes a problem. That burden belongs to the customer who decided to save a few dollars by not buying approved Kubota parts.

The ONLY way to know that the filter meets Kubota's specifications is to buy a genuine Kubota filter ... end of story!!!

The POINT of my question is that some cheap filters are of such poor quality that if chosen…. repeatedly…. might also Repeatedly have the Same Failure.

If he did not use Genuine Kubota (branded) filters… then he can certainly say so. I personally would have no problem if he chose Wix, NAPA, Purolator, or even a FRAM….. but some off-brand chincopin ….might be the ROOT of the Problem.

McMXI said it accurately and succinctly. Thank you.

While you are not necessarily wrong heres where the problem lies. I despise AI but do find it comical to read all the wrong answers it gives. You can google search a cross reference and spend hours reading and have 5 different answers. Auto parts stores may or may not have a cross reference that may or may not be correct, typically not though so they resort to "matching" a filter which includes nothing more than physical appearance. Also who is the leading authority in cross referencing these filters that has done research and can say this filter is equivalent or better than that filter? Nobody. Definitely not kubota. Manufacturers may provide something but can you honestly say they compare all the 10000+ different filters out there and make sure they meet oem standards? Very unlikely. So from my experience talking to and helping lots of customers and seeing their problems, while there may very well be a substitute out there that is as good or better, the few dollars you may save isn't worth the potential headache and damage to the tractor.

My Kubota F2690 is 3 years old and still gets Kubota branded filters but I am using more and more stuff from Baldwin including recently switching my GM diesel pickup to Baldwin oil filters because of machining issues resulted in leaks with wherever AC Delco just shifted PF-2232 filter production. I still have several spin on Allison filters left for the transmission and when I run out of those I will purchase another case from an Allison distributor.

I will likely switch the Kubota over to Baldwin in the future, they make excellent products.
