How do you go about replacing the fan belt with hydraulic shaft and pump driven by crank pulley? I loosened the piece between the two but it won't drop down.

Haven't looked under the hood of one of those but most swing type tensioners I've used also require the pin bolt loosened to move as well as the adjustment bolt.

In order to get the belt on or off the main pulley it must come off the drive shaft for the front loader hydraulic pump. The drive shaft is sectional but still won't allow me to remove it due to lack of clearance. The only way I see is to remove the hydro pump. A big messy hassle. Is there an easy way to replace the fan drive belt?

Whoops totally missed what you said in your first post.

I would've said there must be as the only engineers dumb enough to make routine maintenance that hard work at Volkswagen but some searching suggests this is a common problem so there was apparently some consulting work done.

I didn't find any answers for you though. Can you loosen the hydraulic pump enough to slip the shaft out without breaking the lines loose? One of the posts I read by a guy said he'd managed to slip it between the shaft and pump but it was a very tight squeeze. You'll might have to wait and see if another owner has come up with something creative.

I have not tried this yet so I am not sure if it will actually work. However, I have the same setup on my B7100. A shaft mounted on the crank drives a front mounted hydraulic pump for the loader. What I did was to purchase a link belt that I believe will work. My plan is to after my original fan belt gives out to replace it with the link belt. With the link belt I can feed it around the shaft, then connect the ends of the belt together.

Yeah that's probably the way to go. Never used one but it entirely avoid having to deal with the pump and shaft.
